SQT BIOMICRONEEDLING

100% Natural & Non-Invasive/Ideal for All Skin Types

BioMicroneedling in Austin at Spa La La Aesthetics & Wellness offers a groundbreaking, needle-free approach to skin rejuvenation.

Using SQT BioMicroneedling, this treatment targets the dermis for profound restoration with four customizable formulations designed for your unique skin type.

Experience powerful skin regeneration with no needles, no downtime — only the benefits of marine-based microcrystals. This innovative therapy boosts collagen production, evens out skin tone, and helps reduce acne scars, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation for both immediate and long-term improvements.

💡 What to Expect: Because BioMicroneedling uses natural spicules (tiny marine-based microcrystals), the sensation can feel intense — similar to very fine glass slivers or prickly stingers in the skin. This is completely normal and actually signals that the spicules are stimulating cell turnover. Most clients find the sensation fades within 24–48 hours, and the incredible results make the short-term discomfort worthwhile.

Unlike traditional microneedling, SQT BioMicroneedling works gently without causing trauma, making it safe even for sensitive skin. This state-of-the-art treatment stimulates natural cell regeneration, allowing your skin to detoxify and renew itself from within — leaving it smoother, healthier, and more radiant. It’s not just a treatment, it’s a complete transformation.

What are Algae spicules?

Algae spicules form the exoskeleton of marine sponges of certain types of coral.  They are mainly composed of calcium carbonate or silicone dioxide.  As a structural element, they can take on many fascinating shapes, each unique to their species.  Spicules were first used in traditional skin therapies in Eastern Europe and Asia.  They were used to treat a variety of skin concerns due to their therapuetic properties and high mineral content.

They have slowly found their way into the beauty industry and are now used for total skin rejuvenation.  The future of spicules is exciting.  Each year scientists are finding thousands of new species, each with its own unique spicule structure and composition.  They are being used in a variety of clinical trials to treat not only skin disorders, but are also being used in cancer research and the treatment of various diseases.

Algae (or freshwater sponge) spicules are microscopic, needle-like structures that come from the skeleton of natural sponges (often Spongilla species). Here’s a clear breakdown:

✨ Composition of Algae/Freshwater Spicules

  • Silica (Silicon Dioxide):
The main component — spicules are essentially tiny, sharp crystalline rods of hydrated silica. This is what gives them the “glass sliver” sensation when applied to the skin.
  • Organic Matrix (Proteins & Polysaccharides):
Spicules also contain trace amounts of proteins, polysaccharides, and minerals that act as a scaffold within the sponge structure.
  • Natural Bioactive Compounds (Trace):
Depending on the sponge source, there may also be small amounts of natural compounds with mild anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial properties.

Due to the structure of spicules, with their sharp-like edges, they create a microchanneling effect.  When mechanically massaged into the skin, they enter the epidermis and act as a transepidermal delivery system.  As they dissolve, they release a polypharmacy of vitamins, minerals, and natural steriods (Vitamin D), and antibiotics, which help stimulate collagen, normalize melanocyte activity, and improve cellular health.

Spicules and chemical peels are very different in their composition, application, pre-care, and post-care.  Spicules are 100% natural and contain just one ingredient:  hydrolyzed sponge/coral.  They are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding and do not contain any acids.  Therefore, unlike chemical peels, protein denaturization does not occur.
